Free community event: Supporting youth after disclosure

3Trees and U Grow Girl are co-hosting a free event in Armstrong on protecting youth from sexual abuse, supporting them after disclosure, and understanding trauma across the lifespan.

By 3Trees Okanagan

In September, 3Trees and U Grow Girl are co-hosting a free community event in Armstrong focused on three questions every caregiver, coach, teacher, and youth worker eventually asks:

  1. How do I help protect the young people in my life?
  2. How do I respond when a young person discloses abuse?
  3. How does trauma change across a lifetime, and what helps people heal?

Who it’s for

The event is open to parents, grandparents, foster caregivers, teachers, coaches, and anyone who works with or cares for young people. There’s no prior training or background needed. Everyone is welcome.

What you’ll hear

Dr. Pia Pechtel (3Trees co-founder, Clinical Director at the CYAC Kelowna) will share what the science of trauma tells us about supporting young people after disclosure.

Crystal Wood (Director of Programs and Development, U Grow Girl) will share what adult survivors have taught her about what would have helped when they were children.

Together, they’ll point to practical next steps and local resources.
