For families

Your family is welcome here.

If your child has experienced sexual abuse, 3Trees is for you. Families participate at no cost. All care is evidence-based and led by a registered clinical psychologist.

Who the program is for

Youth aged 13 to 18, and the adults who care for them.

  • Young people aged 13 to 18 who have experienced sexual abuse.

  • Non-offending caregivers who want to support their child's healing.

  • Families across British Columbia, with priority for the North Okanagan and Shuswap.

  • Youth from any background. Our program is culturally safe, inclusive, and welcomes all genders.

How to apply

Email or call us. We'll set up a confidential conversation with Dr. Pia Pechtel or Deanne Leung.

  2. 02

    Assessment

A gentle clinical assessment helps us understand your child's needs and whether 3Trees is the right fit right now.

  3. 03

    Tailored plan

If the program is a fit, we build a treatment plan together with you and your child. You're never handed a one-size-fits-all schedule.

Questions from families

Common questions, answered.

Does it really cost nothing for my family to participate?

Yes. Youth and their non-offending caregivers attend the program at no cost. The charity covers therapy, camp activities, meals, lodging (for the residential camp), and clinical staffing through donations and grants. There are no hidden fees.

Is my child's participation confidential?

Yes. All clinical information is protected by the confidentiality obligations of registered psychologists and counsellors in British Columbia, with the legal limits required by law (including our duty to report any ongoing child abuse). Names and identifying details are never shared publicly.

What if my child is not ready for group settings?

We understand. Every child begins with a one-on-one clinical assessment. If the group camp format is not the right fit right now, we work with you to identify alternative supports and revisit the option when your child is ready.

Does the program work with any insurance or provincial funding?

The program is fully funded by donations and grants. Families don't need private insurance or provincial funding to access it. If your family also receives MCFD supports or counselling through other channels, we can coordinate with those providers with your consent.

What credentials do the clinicians have?

Clinical leadership includes Dr. Pia Pechtel (Registered Psychologist, former Harvard Medical School faculty, Clinical Director at CYAC Kelowna) and Deanne Leung (Registered Clinical Counsellor with 25+ years of experience). All facilitators are trained professionals with trauma-informed care backgrounds.

What ages and genders are welcome?

The program serves youth aged 13 to 18. Young people of all genders are welcome. Our environment is inclusive and culturally safe, and we work with the Okanagan Nation Alliance to ensure Indigenous youth are supported to participate.

What if I am a young person reaching out on my own?
